Summer has ended, and though we are sad that the lazy days watching Netflix have come to an end, we might be lowkey excited that school is just beginning. So, how can you can make sure that you have an impressive start to the year? Here are a few tips.

1. Make Smart Friends

For some, making friends are easy. For others, meeting new people is a little scary and challenging. No matter where you fall on the spectrum, I strongly advise that you make friends with people who are focused on their work and who are going places. Your friends will either drag you down or will motivate you to do better. Find friends who you can share notes with, count on to work to do their part of the project, and study with. You will better for it.

2. Get and Stay Organized

Sounds simple enough, but being organized is half the battle to having a great academic year. Buy folders, use your planner, use the calendar in your iPad. Set a schedule to your day and stick to it. You will be amazed to find how much time you save by staying organized from the beginning.

3. Enhance Your Leisure Time

Leisure time is necessary. We all need a break before we tap out from exhaustion. However, try to find a way to make sure your leisure time is productive. Pick up reading. Watch informative documentaries on Netflix. Exercise and play sports with the intent of improving your skills. Use your leisure time to improve your product. You want to become great at something, then you have to start now. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new and to sharpen the saw.

4. See Your Teachers as Resources

Teachers are here to help you (even the mean ones). If you are confused or struggling to understand a concept, schedule extra time with your teacher. Lunch time, after school, email, or Skype are just some of the ways you can find time to ask your teacher important questions. Teachers want to help you, but you can't be afraid to ask.
